Contribute to the creation of an environmentally sound, sustainable economy and society through our business activities

Tokyo Century’s commitment to sustainability is driven by its pursuit of further sustainable development and higher corporate value along with stakeholders as a financial services company, and it thereby contributes to the creation of an environmentally sound, sustainable economy and society. In promoting sustainability management, we envision, with due consideration of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a society 10 to 20 years into the future and then take a backcasting approach toward creating financial services that will meet the needs of that time.

Sustainability Management Promotion System

Sustainability management strategies are an important framework of Tokyo Century’s medium-term management plan. Our approach toward sustainability management entails contributing to the resolution of social issues through our business to achieve sustainable growth for both society and the Company, along with improvements in corporate value. In practicing this type of sustainability management, we are advancing materiality initiatives that contribute to the accomplishment of the SDGs and implementing a PDCA cycle to confirm progress with this regard.

Role of the Sustainability Committee

Established in April 2018, the Sustainability Committee is responsible for deliberations related to sustainability management at Tokyo Century. This committee meets twice a year, in principle. Important matters deliberated on by the Sustainability Committee are reported to and discussed by the Management Meeting and the Board of Directors to allow for oversight by the Board of Directors. The Sustainability Committee is chaired by the president of the Corporate Planning Unit, and this committee promotes initiatives for addressing materiality items that position sustainability as an important management issue. The Sustainability Management Division, which is responsible for planning, promoting, and overseeing Companywide sustainability initiatives, functions as the secretariat for the Sustainability Committee.

In addition, the Sustainability Committee also collaborates with the Comprehensive Risk Management Committee, which handles climate change risk from the perspective of risk management. Regarding climate change risk as an operational risk in a non-financial risk category, we have a system in place to report monitoring results to the Board of Directors twice a year through the Comprehensive Risk Management Committee as a risk indicator for non-financial information.
