Tokyo Century is fostering health awareness among its officers and employees and creating a workplace environment where each individual can work with peace of mind and in good physical and mental health. This initiative aligns with its Basic Policy on Health and Productivity Management. As part of the initiative, we held a women’s health seminar again this year.

As women become more susceptible to ultraviolet radiation due to hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause, it is essential to take appropriate measures depending on their life stage. To address this, we invited Ms. Ayumi Machida, a public health nurse from Avenir Corporation, to give a lecture on the topic of ultraviolet radiation.

Ms. Machida explained the benefits and risks of ultraviolet (UV) exposure in the seminar. UV exposure produces vitamin D, an essential factor for bone health that helps reduce the risk of osteoporosis. It also stimulates the production of serotonin, which is instrumental in mood regulation and mental health improvement. On the other hand, UV exposure can put overall health at risk, such as causing skin cancer, weakened immune function, and chronic skin inflammation.

She shared specific measures, such as how to properly choose and apply sunscreen, using hats, parasols, and other UV protection tools, and taking internal care through diet.

Participants’ feedback after the seminar indicated it was a worthwhile event. Some commented that they learned about ultraviolet radiation comprehensively, including its advantages and disadvantages, and others said that they understood different ultraviolet rays have distinct effects on the mind and body.

The lecturer, Ms. Machida, commented, "UV protection is important for everyone, not to mention women. Acquiring correct knowledge and taking easy measures in your daily life will lead to maintaining your health and preventing skin problems in the future."

The recording of the seminar has been made available to share the information across the company, especially for the officers and employees who could not attend on the day.

Tokyo Century views health management as a management issue and promotes initiatives to maintain and improve the health of its officers and employees and their families.
